SOCASTEE, S.C.—Three passes from the Socastee 30 fell incomplete in the final 16 seconds and West Brunswick’s rally fell short, 21-17, in a season-opening football game, played over two days because of a storm. Lightning forced a suspension in the second quarter of the game Friday night.

West had taken a 17-14 lead with 6:17 left in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run by Maverick Pate and his two-point conversion. The 18-yard drive was set up when senior A.J. Daniels recovered a muffed punt at the 33. A penalty gave West possession at the 18.
