Fatalities on Brunswick County roadways reached a five-year high in 2012.
Twenty-seven lives were lost last year, the highest since 2007 when there were 33.
“We definitely went up this year over last year,” said N.C. Highway Patrol First Sgt. Troy Pope.
According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, there were 27 fatal wrecks resulting in 27 fatalities in 2012.
In 2011 there were 16 fatal wrecks that claimed 19 lives. In 2010 there were 21 fatal wrecks resulting in 25 fatalities.
