Agents with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit seized more than $75,000 in cocaine from a Supply man last week.

According to a sheriff’s office press release, just after 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, drug agents arrived at a home on Zane Way in Supply to execute a search warrant.

When drug agents arrived, Justin Dior Newsome, 22, of 197 Zane Way, was allegedly seen running out the front door. He allegedly had more than 9 ounces of powder cocaine on him.

After drug agents searched the inside of the home, they seized 56 grams of marijuana, scales and other evidence of marijuana distribution.

Newsome was charged with trafficking more than 200 grams of cocaine and possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine.

A second suspect, Portia Leteres Hankins, 34, also of 197 Zane Way, was charged with manufacture marijuana, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Newsome was in custody at the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $200,000 secured bond. Hankins was in custody at the detention center on a $10,000 secured bond.

Drug agents initiated their investigation after receiving numerous complaints about drug-related activities occurring at the Zane Way home, which, according to community complaints and confidential informants, is known as “The Ranch.”

Drug agents credit the community complaints as the turning point in the investigation, which is on-going.

“The sheriff’s office has placed more emphasis on working closely with the community on specific drug-related problems. The investigation is on-going at this time; however, the sheriff’s office believes that a seizure of this caliber serves as a reminder that drugs will not be tolerated in this county,” the press release states.

Anyone with information about drug activity in the community is asked to contact the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit at 253-2744, or at the sheriff’s office Web site at www.brunswicksheriff.com.

All information will remain confidential.
