SUPPLY—The Brunswick Community College women’s basketball team has not played a game this season, but it already has something of which to be proud.
Chelsea McGowan, a 6-foot-2 center from Cedar Point, signed a letter of intent Nov. 10 to continue her career at UNC Wilmington.
“I’m excited for her,” BCC coach Ashlyn Burke said. “I’m excited for the team to see another teammate go on to a Division I team. Hopefully, that will bring some motivation to our team that they can do the same thing. Chelsea is a great kid. She’s going to be a great player for us this year.
“I’m excited. I get to send her on to the school that I worked at, where I graduated. I told her, ‘You gave me my first goal as a college coach, to send a player on to UNCW.’”
Burke said he expects McGowan to continue to play hard throughout the season.
“She’ll keep her intensity,” Burke said. “Chelsea is a smart player. She’s a leader on our team. She’s going to keep that fire. This should give her more motivation to stay fired up about next year.”
