Verity to be Energy-Star rater

-A A +A

Verity Property Maintenance & Inspections has been chosen by Southern Comfort Homes to provide the Home Energy Rater (HERS) rating on its new home now being built at Palmetto Creek Subdivision, lot 136, to qualify for the Energy Star label.

To earn the Energy Star, a home must meet strict guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These homes are at least 15 percent more energy efficient than homes built to International Residential Code (IRC), and include additional energy-saving features that typically make them 20–30 percent more efficient than standard homes.

A home energy rating involves an analysis of a home’s construction plans and onsite inspections. Based on the home’s plans, the Home Energy Rater uses an energy efficiency software package to perform an energy analysis of the home’s design. This analysis yields a projected, pre-construction HERS Index.

Upon completion of the plan review, the rater works with the builder to identify the energy efficiency improvements needed to ensure the house meets Energy Star performance guidelines.

A home energy rating is a recognized tool in the mortgage industry. Home energy ratings can be used in a variety of ways in the housing industry. Since a rating quantifies the energy performance of a home, the HERS Index provides an easily understandable means to compare the relative energy efficiency of different homes.

“As a certified HERS rater and licensed real estate inspector, partnering with Energy Star provides greater value to our customers,” said Jeff Achterberg of Verity. “Now, Verity has additional resources available that help our customers save money spent on energy in their homes and commercial buildings.”
