A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man accused of sneaking a cell phone into the Brunswick County Jail.

Joseph Oneal High, 37, of Breezewood Drive in Wilmington, is wanted on a charge of inmate possession of tobacco, phone or electronics, the warrant from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office shows.

High reported to the jail July 12 to serve weekend time for a traffic violation conviction, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Emily Flax said. During the intake procedure, he managed to sneak a cell phone into a holding cell when a guard was not looking and before he could be patted down. Inmates are not allowed to have cell phones in the jail.

An internal investigation showed no evidence of wrongdoing by any member of the jail staff during this incident, Flax said.
