To the editor: This is in reference to the article featured in the Oct. 15 issue of the Brunswick Beacon about Dee Hill’s “fumbled future.”
While summarizing the events of that horrid night, the author, Kathryn Jacewicz, specifically refers to Beck’s Restaurant in Calabash as the meeting place for these teenagers.
It is true one of those teenagers was employed by our restaurant and, like everyone else in the county who knew any one of these teens, we were shocked by his actions as we felt it was completely out of character.
I recall that evening the employed teenager was waiting for his “ride.” I also distinctly remember those boys did not converge or meet inside our establishment, as that would have been prohibited.
If his “ride” picked him up in the parking lot, their identities and their agenda were unbeknownst to me as well as the rest of my employees. The mere mention of our establishment in the article indirectly implies we condone the actions of that night and printing such irrelevant information demonstrates irresponsibility on behalf of The Beacon.
We pride ourselves on providing a family-friendly establishment by conducting business as generations before us have taught us.
