Wave rider: Powell continues to star in surfing

Michael Powell continues to have the best months of his surfing career.

In the sixth annual Reef/Sweetwater Pro-Am event July 18 at Wrightsville Beach, Powell finished first and won $5,000.

This victory came one month after Powell made college surfing history at the National Collegiate Championships at Salt Creek, Calif. Powell, competing for UNCW, became the first East Coast college surfer to win a national title.
