Trey Brown threw a two-hitter as the West Trojans beat Hampstead Post 157 8-2 in a Junior American Legion baseball game Saturday.
West (9-7) made five errors in the victory, but Hampstead—which made six errors—was unable to take advantage against Brown, who struck out five, walked three and gave up no earned runs in the seven-inning game.
Hamptead scored in the second off three errors and a groundout. But West batted around in the bottom of the inning in taking a 5-1 lead.
Bruce Clewis led off and singled to short center field. He stole second and went to third on Lorenzo Pigott’s groundout. Timmy Powell’s bunt scored Clewis. Brown walked and Gavin Lane bunted, loading the bases. On a 3-2 count, Josh Cortes walked, forcing in a run. With two outs, Hunter Allen reached on an error and two runs scored. Nick Napolitano scored the final run when he singled to right field.
West went ahead 6-1 in the next inning when Clewis reached on a dropped third strike, went to second on the overthrow and scored on Pigott’s single up the middle.
Hampstead scored its final run in the fourth on a single, a wild pitch, a passed ball and a wild pitch.
Damian Burney scored West’s seventh run when, in the sixth, he bunted, stole second, went to third on an error and stole home with Napolitano at bat. He walked and scored on Pigott’s single up the middle.
Brown was helped by two fine catches by the outfielders. In the fourth, left fielder Burney made a sliding catch of a sinking liner. In the fifth, right fielder Cortes made a tumbling catch of a ball near the foul line. Napolitano also threw out a runner in the second.
Pigott was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Napolitano was 1-for-2 with a walk and one RBI. Powell was 1-for-3 with one RBI. He was hit by a pitch. Lane singled, walked and sacrificed. Cortes had one RBI.
LELAND POST 68 10
Leland Post 68 scored four runs in the second inning and five in the fifth en route to a 10-7 victory June 25 over West, Leland’s seventh straight victory.
Tommy Price was the winning pitcher, giving up seven hits in seven innings. He struck out four and walked three. He gave up three earned runs as Leland made three errors. West scored five of its seven runs in the seventh inning.
For Leland (13-5), Tim Walsh was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Chase Dobbs was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Mason Oppert was 2-for-3.
For West, Bruce Clewis was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Timmy Powell was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Hunter Allen was 2-for-4. Markel Jones was 1-for-3. Nick Napolitano had one RBI. Damian Burney was 1-for-3.
In the 7-2 nonconference victory June 24, The Trojans scored five runs in the first two innings off two hits, three walks, three hit batters, two errors and three wild pitches.
West used five pitchers. Starter Landon Tilley was the winner. In two innings, he gave up one hit and one run. He walked three and struck out two.
Hunter Allen, the starting shortstop, gave up one run and three hits in two innings. He struck out four and walked no one.
Damian Burney, Markel Jones and Bruce Clewis each pitched a scoreless inning.
Allen finished 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. He also was hit by a pitch. Tilley was 2-for-3. Jones was 1-for-3 with a walk. He was hit by a pitch. Nick Napolitano walked twice. Clewis was 1-for-3 with one RBI. He was hit by a pitch. Lorenzo Pigott was 1-for-2 with two walks.
NEW HANOVER 10
New Hanover took advantage of three errors in the sixth inning to score seven runs and went on to beat West 10-2 June 23.
West scored a run in the first when Bruce Clewis reached on a walk and scored on a double by Nick Napolitano. West scored its other run in the seventh when Hunter Allen singled, advanced on a groundout by Clewis and came home on a passed ball.
Allen finished 2-for-4. Clewis singled and walked twice. Landon Tilley, Timmy Powell and Damian Burney each had singles.

West made four errors but turned two double plays. In the fourth, third baseman Lorenzo Pigott caught a line drive and threw to first baseman Gavin Lane to double up a runner.
In the seventh, Allen, Powell and Lane turned a double play to end the inning.
West beat Laney 6-2 in 11 innings June 22. Lorenzo Pigott pitched seven innings, giving up one run and five hits. He struck out four and walked none. Bruce Clewis pitched the final four innings for the victory, giving up one unearned run, one hit, one intentional walk and one walk. He struck out one.
Each team scored in the first and ninth innings. West scored four in the 11th for the victory. Colby Cannon had three hits. Hunter Allen had two hits. Nick Napolitano had a double. Clewis, Josh Cortes and Gavin Lane each had one hit.
