West JV unbeaten remains unbeaten in conference

 LELAND—West Brunswick beat North Brunswick 10-5 in a conference baseball game April 16 at North.


The Trojans scored seven runs in the second inning en route to the victory.

Ryan Caison was the winning pitcher, giving up three hits and three runs (two unearned) in 5.1 innings. He walked three and struck out two. Carson Tew gave up two hits and two unearned runs in 1.2 innings. He walked one and struck out one.

West finished with 10 hits. Cole Josselyn, batting No. 9, was 3-for-4 and stole two bases. Erick Hill was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Markel Jones was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Chandler Taylor was 1-for-2 with a double and one RBI. Dylan Darguzas was 1-for-3. Landon Tilley was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Khalil Gause was 1-for-4.

With one out in the second against Kevon Perkins, Gause and Darguzas singled. One run scored on a passed ball and Tilley doubled home another run. Josselyn singled and stole second. With runners on third and second, Erick Hill singled home two runs.

Jones doubled, putting runners on third and second. Taylor reached on a fielder’s choice on a throw to home and two runs scored on the play, giving West a 6-0 lead. The lead went to 7-0 on a wild pitch.

The Trojans scored a run in the fourth when Josselyn singled, stole second and scored on Taylor’s two-out double to the base of the center field fence 346 feet from home plate.

North scored twice in the fourth, using a delayed double steal to score the first run. Blaine Hollis singled home an unearned run.

West scored twice in the sixth against Jacob Shumate, the first on a passed ball and the second when Jones topped the ball short of the mound and beat the throw to first for a run-scoring single.

North scored in the sixth when Tyler Barnes walked, Shumate doubled and Randy Clark, against reliever Carson Tew, singled.

North scored two unearned runs in the seventh off an error and a groundout.

West is 6-2 in the conference; North, 4-4.


West JV

West Brunswick beat North Brunswick 7-6 in a junior varsity game April 16 at West. Each team has eight hits, but West stole eight bases and North made five errors.

For West, Tristan Lewis had two hits and stole two bases. Austin Turner was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Charlie Carcich hit a double and had two RBIs. Zack Johnson had two RBIs and stole three bases. Hunter Ashburn also had one RBI.

Starter Connor Durham was the winning pitcher, giving up two hits and no runs in three innings. He walked none and struck out four.

West is 8-0 in the conference, 15-2 overall (the two losses against varsity teams).
