WILMINGTON—West Brunswick’s junior American Legion baseball team (Southwest Brunswick) opened its season by routing Ashley 19-8 May 22.
West Brunswick trailed 3-2 after the first inning but scored four runs in the second and six runs in the third en route to the victory.
West Brunswick finished with 18 hits. Jay Gause was 4-for-5 with seven RBIs and two doubles. Both doubles were hit with the bases loaded.
“There was no place to put him, so they had to pitch to him,” manager Mike Alderson said. “Of course, everybody hit.”
