West Junior American Legion team routs North Myrtle Beach

Rebounding from an 11-2 conference loss to Ashley, the West Brunswick Junior American Legion baseball team beat North Myrtle Beach 10-0 in five innings July 1.

Starter Gavin Lane was the winning pitcher in the conference game, giving up one hit and two walks in three innings. He struck out two.

Hunter Allen pitched the final two innings, giving up two hits and one walk. He struck out one.

West scored twice in the first. Allen led off with a single. Markel Jones singled, and an error allowed Allen to score. Jones scored when Nick Napolitano reached on an error.

The Trojans scored four runs in the second, begun by a double by Josh Cortes. Tim Powell walked, and Cortes eventually scored on a wild pitch. Damian Burney walked. Allen hit a two-run triple. A sacrifice fly by Napolitano put West ahead 6-0.

West scored a run in the fourth on an error. Jones singled with two outs and scored on an error on a ball hit by Napolitano.

The Trojans ended the game in the fifth, scoring three runs for a 10-run lead.

Trey Brown reached on an error. Cortes singled, and an error allowed Brown to score and Cortes take third. A walk to pinch hitter Dustin Darguzas and a single by Burney loaded the bases. Allen singled in a run, and the game ended on a single to right field by Jones.

Allen finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Jones was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Cortes was 2-for-3. Napolitano reached twice in three at-bats and had one RBI. Powell walked and singled in two at-bats. Burney walked and singled in three at-bats.
