West JV baseball team beats Crusaders’ varsity 14-3

 The West Brunswick junior varsity baseball team beat the Harrells Christian Academy varsity 14-3 in five innings in a final-round game April 3 in the Touchstone Energy Beach Diamond Invitational.


West scored 12 runs on six hits and three errors in the second inning.

With the bases loaded and one out, Hunter Ashburn singled home two runs to tie the score. After a run scored on a wild pitch, Charlie Carcich was safe on a fielder’s choice. A walk loaded the bases and a walk to Zack Johnson forced in a run.

Gray Cheers singled home two runs, and after a run scored on a double steal, the lead was 7-2.

Connor Durham was safe on an error and Jake Elliott drove in two runs. Tristan Lewis’ hit made the score 10-2. After Tyler Stanley was safe on an error, Ashburn hit a sacrifice fly. Carcich’s double drove in the final run in the inning.

West scored two runs in the third on a sacrifice fly by Durham and a wild pitch.

Gray Cheers was the winning pitcher, giving up two runs (one unearned) and five hits in four innings He walked two and struck out three.
