West, South in BB&T Jamboree

The West Brunswick and South Brunswick high school football teams once again will participate in the annual BB&T Football Jamboree. The 26th jamboree is scheduled for Aug. 10 at Legion Stadium in Wilmington.
The jamboree begins at 5 p.m. with a cheerleading showcase followed by five scrimmages that begin at 6 p.m. New Hanover will scrimmage West Brunswick in the second scrimmage and Laney will scrimmage South Brunswick in the fourth scrimmage.
Each scrimmage consists of two 12-minute periods.
The 2011 jamboree attracted 7,300 spectators. Proceeds totaled $37,028, enough to fund 20 $1,000 scholarships (two per school). In addition, participating schools received about $1,452 each for their general operating budgets.
Since the jamboree began in 1989, about $1.02 million has been raised for southeastern North Carolina high schools and 486 student scholarships totaling $472,000 have been awarded.
