LELAND—The West Brunswick boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams won the third meet of the season Sept. 25 in Leland.
South Brunswick sophomore Grant Hufham won the boys’ race in 16 minutes, 43 seconds and senior Carmen Hilliard won the girls’ race in 19:24.
In the boys’ team standings, West was first with 35 points, beating South by six points. Five schools fielded teams.
In the girls’ team standings, West was first with 52 points, beating Cape Fear by seven points. South was third with 61 points in the six-team race.
For West, junior Spencer Waters was third in 17:43 and sophomore Gray Cheers was fourth in 18:02.
West’s other top finishers were sophomore Lance Watts, eighth in 19:00; senior Austin Hayes, ninth in 19:04; and sophomore Allan Plueger, 11th in 19:23.
Junior Joey Hurst was 12th in 19:54 and sophomore Drew Boyer 13th in 20:03.
For South Brunswick, two other runners were in the top 10: Thomas Eichorn was second in 17:25 and freshman Jack Palagruto 10th in 20:10.
In the girls’ race, South had three runners in the top 10: Hilliard, Ashley Sloup second (21:24) and freshman Kendall Regan 10th.
In the girls’ race, West had three runners in the top 10: Sophomore Shelly Chavis was fifth in 23:08, junior Corina Sierra eighth in 24:11 and senior Brianna Mokma ninth in 23:49.
Sophomore Alexa Evans was 14th in 25:49 and sophomore Emily Arrigoni 16th in 25:59.
North’s top runner in the boys’ race was BoDee Hancock (22nd) and its top runner in the girls’ race was Kelly Heyer, third overall in 22:49.
