West unable to catch Scorpions

Demontez Lennon scored 19 points, Anthony Gaines 13 and Reggie Cobia 11—all juniors—as North Brunswick beat West Brunswick 57-43 in the final basketball game of the regular season.

West’s top scorer was Ryan Hill with 13 points. West ends the regular season 3-20.

North lead 28-25 at halftime, and back-to-back 3-pointers by Tyshon Walker gave it a 41-29 lead with 3 minutes, 59 seconds left in the quarter.

North entered the fourth quarter ahead 42-32, and a dunk by Reggie Cobia, a basket by Lennon and another dunk by Cobia extended the lead to 50-36 with about 4:30 left. A rebound by Lennon and five North free throws over the next 3:30 clinched the victory. West scored five points in the final 4:18

Early in the game, 3-pointer by Gaines helped give the Scorpions an 8-2 lead. A basket and two free throws by West’s Pat Kamfolt cut the lead 12-6, but a rebound by Shawn Sanders and a 3-pointer by Lennon put North ahead 19-8 at the end of the quarter.

West outscored the Scorpions 17-9 in the second quarter to cut the lead to 28-25 by halftime. West began the second quarter with a 8-0 run—a basket by Alfy Hill, a three-point play by Ryan Hill and a 3-pointer from the right wing by Ryan Hill—in cutting the North lead to 19-16.

A layup by Kamfolt left West down 23-21, but Lennon hit a 3-pointer to give the Scorpions a 26-21 lead. A three-point play by Kamfolt cut the deficit to 28-25 at halftime.

The North Brunswick junior varsity beat West 77-66.

Top scorers for West were Quan Bates, 22 points, and Marquese Johnson, 13 points.
