What is wrong with this scenario? North Carolina is billions in debt. Gov. Bev Perdue borrows education lottery funds to meet state obligations. Education funding is cut to schools and people are laid off. The state has to pass a tax increase to keep from going bankrupt. North Carolina awards $400,000 to Shallotte to build a park.
If Shallotte gets $400,000, and other municipalities across the state also receive their version of pork, some people are lying about the dire conditions facing the state, don’t y’all think?
