To the editor:
Councilwoman Karen Joseph has been critical of the mayor (of Sunset Beach) for not promoting how wonderful Sunset Beach is. What she doesn’t seem to understand is that God, nature and caring citizens created Sunset Beach.
I have quickly learned that our taxpayers’ quest for totally open and transparent government that includes budget reform, fiscal restraint and reducing taxes are delayed dreams. Council’s clever manipulation of the park survey is yet another example of how town hall continues to ignore our taxpayers. Let’s hope council won’t try to do the same with the park survey results.
Promote Sunset Beach? The producers of “Today In America” hosted by Terry Bradshaw recently contacted me. I persuaded them to select our town for their television series promoting Sunset Beach as a vacation and retirement haven. I was also hoping the series would provide local businesses and Realtors an added boost during this recession, not to mention additional revenues for our town. At a workshop, council ignored the information and suggestion.
I expressed my disappointment to the producer and strongly recommended Ocean Isle Beach. Last week, “Today In America” was filmed in Ocean Isle Beach instead of Sunset Beach. Sadly, our council seems to be more concerned about who is getting the credit rather than doing what is best for taxpayers and local businesses.
Congratulations to Ocean Isle Beach!
Mayor Rich Cerrato
