The winter storm that left Brunswick County frozen last week caused several business and school closures, slick roadways, and numerous vehicle accidents.
The storm was a product of colliding cold and warm air masses. Warm jet stream winds from Mexico and the deep South spread moisture over an arctic air mass dropping in from Canada, which created the potential for sleet, snow and ice, said Steve Pfaff, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
