When young Wheelie was found, he'd been shot in his back leg, was starving, and had heartworm disease. Since his treatment for his leg and heartworms, he's become a very happy dog. The people at Paws Place thought he'd need a doggie wheelchair if his leg had to be amputated, but the veterinarian was able to save it. Wheelie is very sociable, seems to be housebroken, and loves to play with other dogs and people. He loves to swim in his baby pool in the summer and would make some family a wonderful companion. Paws Place Animal Rescue is a no-kill, nonprofit domestic animal rescue facility that provides sanctuary for unadoptable dogs and seeks loving homes for those that are. Its kennels are open daily 9 a.m. to noon. Paws Place also offers animal care education and volunteer work programs at its five-acre humanitarian facility five miles east of U.S. 87 and one mile north of Camp Pretty Pond, 3701 Boiling Spring Road in Boiling Spring Lakes. Tax-deductible cash donations are always needed and appreciated, especially for the spaying and neutering program. Call (910) 845-PAWS (7297) or visit the Web site www.pawsplace.org.
