    Quilt show is May 19-20
    The Brunswick Quilters guild will present “A Galaxy of Quilts” quilt show from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, and from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at The Brunswick Center, 1513 North Howe St. in Southport.
    The exhibit will display more than 100 quilts and quilted items made by guild members. The event will showcase a queen-size raffle quilt, “Aegean Star,” a Judy Martin pattern made by guild members.

    Native Americans to speak at history meeting
    The next meeting of the Brunswick County Historical Society will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 14, at Brunswick Community College, Building A, in Bolivia. The society meets the second Monday in February, May, August and November.

    Plant sale benefits scholarships
    The Coastal Garden Club of Shallotte will conduct its annual plant sale from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, May 4, at 6704 Beach Drive N.C. 179) in Ocean Isle Beach, across from Jimmy’s Marina. Choose from annuals, perennials and vegetables. Proceeds will benefit horticultural scholarships and the interagency program at Brunswick Community College.

    Toastmasters to meet at First Bank in Shallotte
    The Brunswick County Toastmasters has changed its meeting location for the remainder of the year. It will meet at First Bank, 347 Whiteville Road in Shallotte, on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. For meeting times and information, call 540-1363.

  • Garden club supports new hospice house

    Long Bay Garden Club has fulfilled a $10,000 pledge to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation Closer to Home SECU Hospice House capital campaign to build an inpatient hospice facility in Brunswick County. A patio garden off the Solace Room will be named in its honor.

    Buy wine tasting tickets by April 25
    The Ocean Isle Beach Chapter of the American Wine Society will host its next wine tasting event for area wine lovers and their guests at 5 p.m. April 29 at the Silver Coast Winery, 6680 Barbeque Road in Ocean Isle Beach.
    The cost of the tasting will be $10. All guests are urged to bring their favorite wine glass for this event. Prior to the tasting, the chapter will have a brief meet-and-greet social with wine and cheese being served.

  • Garden tour offers views of coastal plantings

    The Coastal Garden Club of Shallotte will host its annual tour and tea on Saturday, April 28. Gardens in the Seascape and Lockwood Folly plantations will be open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The tea will take place from noon-3 p.m. at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.

  • Sundowners to host Relay fashion show

    The River’s Edge Sundowners, residents of the River’s Edge community, are sponsoring a fashion show to benefit the Brunswick County Relay for Life from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, April l9, at Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash.
    Fashions are from Victoria’s Ragpatch and the Calabash Garden Tea Room will cater an elegant box lunch. In addition, there will be raffle items and door prizes donated by many of the local merchants.

  • Winding River presents ‘I Love You, You’re Perfect’

    The Winding River Players highly acclaimed musical comedy revue, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” was a musical joyride through the hilarious spectrum of romantic relationships from dating to grandparenting.
    Performed to sold-out crowds March 23-24, the show was directed by Sue MacCallum and produced by Susan Zimmerman. Barbara Berry was the musical director.

    Classic Country Band to play at VFW April 6
    VFW Post 10804 on S.C. 57 North in Little River, S.C., will have a dinner/dance featuring Classic Country Band beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, April 6. Cost is $10 per person. For reservations, call (843) 399-0877.
    On Saturday, April 7, enjoy Cheryl Z and karaoke at 5 p.m. Every Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. is wings night; Thursdays from 5:30-7 p.m. is Fiesta nights. All events are open to the public.
