  • Rotary guests win big at Las Vegas night

    The Shallotte Rotary hosted its seventh annual Las Vegas Night on Saturday, Jan. 28. It was a night of fun that raised funds and awareness for local and international charities.
    There were door prizes and silent auction gifts, culminating with the drawing of door prizes and the awarding of a seven-day/six-night Las Vegas vacation.

  • Colonial Dames celebrate 50 years

    Members of the National Society North Carolina Colonial Dames 17th Century, including state president Lollie Holland and other officers, traveled from Greensboro and other areas of North Carolina to help the Lord Craven Chapter celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the chapter.

    Canine Angels benefit dinner is Feb. 25
    A spaghetti dinner to benefit Canine Angels will take place 5-8 p.m. Feb. 25 at Dirty Dick’s Restaurant, 1101 N. Kings Hwy. in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
    For a $10 donation, each patron will be served a dinner of spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and soft drinks. There will also be a raffle and a 50/50 event.
    All proceeds will go to Canine Angels dogs for disabled veterans. For ticket information, call Kathy at (843) 399-2939. No tickets will be sold at the door.

  • Squadron conducts Change of Watch

    The Shallotte River Sail and Power Squadron conducted its annual Change of Watch ceremony at the Jasmine Restaurant at Brunswick Plantation on Friday, Jan. 20. This annual event is scheduled to mark the changeover of squadron officers and to recognize various individuals for their outstanding service. The squadron’s primary mission is to promote boating safety for the community by providing boating classes for those new to boating, as well as to more experienced boaters.

  • Festival chowder cook-off deadline approaches

    The N.C. Fourth of July Festival is seeking individuals, groups or restaurants that would like to face-off for bragging rights at the second annual chowder cook-off from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at the Oak Island Moose Lodge.
    All awards will be decided by a vote of those attending the cook-off. Awards will be given for first, second and third place in the Professional Division and the Individual Division. There will also be an overall Best Decorated Booth award. There is no fee to enter the competition. Application deadline
    is Feb. 17.

    Holden Beach Seniors to meet Feb. 13
    Holden Beach Senior Citizens will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 13 at Lockwood Folly Community Building on Stanley Road. Come and enjoy a covered dish meal. Various members will present a talent show. Officers will be elected and trips will be planned. Remember to bring nonperishable foods for a local food bank.

    The second Monday of every month at 6 p.m. is Pasta Night. Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. are Wings Night and Thursdays from 5:30-7 p.m. are Fiesta Nights.

    SAR will serve luncheon Jan. 14
    The Lower Cape Fear Chapter of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution will have a luncheon meeting from noon-2 p.m. Jan. 14 at Ocean Ridge Plantation (U.S. 17) in Sunset Beach. In case of inclement weather, the luncheon will be Jan. 21. This meeting is open to any man who can trace his lineage to a patriot of the American Revolution.

    Arts by the Shore names winners
    The 17th annual Arts by the Shore took place at the Oak Island Recreation Center from Nov. 17-20.
    A reception and awards ceremony from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, was hosted by Dot Moore, president of the Art Guild; Joyce Grazetti, chairman of the show committee; and Billie Jayroe, representative of Oak Island Parks & Recreation. Special guest host was Daisy Cameron, founder of the show.

  • Little River Rotary dishes up 500 barbecue plates

    More than 500 plates of barbecue were sold during the Rotary Club of Little River’s third annual Scott Taylor Memorial Barbecue on Oct. 28, raising more than $2,500 for Horry County children. Many pre-sold meals were delivered to North Myrtle Beach and Little River area businesses.
    The Rotary club is appreciative of the support of St. Paul AME Church for the use of its church parking lot. The church is a landmark in Little River, S.C.
