Students earn 4-H honors

Elizabeth Mintz, daughter of Ray and Cheryl Mintz of Leland, and Justin Simmons, son of Cleve and Sybil Simmons of Supply, were inducted into the N.C. 4-H State Honor Club on July 18 during the tapping ceremony at N.C. 4-H State Congress. Both are involved and active in the Brunswick County program.

Camera Club announces contest winners

The Coastal Carolina Camera Club’s print competition for images best depicting “reflections” took place on June 14. Awards were given in three divisions: beginners, intermediate and advanced.

Calabash American Legion helps with Ronald McDonald House

With a little good-natured competition, the 329 local American Legion Posts of North Carolina collect pull-tabs over the course of the year, which are brought in at the June convention and fall and mid-winter conferences where they are weighed and taken for recycling. Proceeds benefit The Ronald McDonald House of Durham.

St. James Service Club donates scholarships

The St. James Service Club recently announced the awarding of $2,000 scholarships to six high school seniors through its scholarship program. Receiving scholarships were: Esly Nunez-Cornejo and Anna Ga-Wai Zeng from West Brunswick High School; Mackensie J. Pless and Kalani Doyle from South Brunswick High School; Alexia Shank from North Brunswick High School; and Caleb Strassberg from Brunswick Early College High School.
