The Brunswick Newcomers Club (BNC) will meet Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the Southport Community Center, 223 E. Bay St. (between Bay and Moore streets) in Southport. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. with coffee and refreshments followed by the formal meeting at 10 a.m.

Mary Strickland, manager and curator of the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Southport, will talk about moving day for the museum. Sign-up sheets for various activities and trips will also be available at the meeting.

The Coastal Shag Club has announced its 2011 board members. They are Gary Sellers, president; Pat Boyd, vice resident; Joan Wurtz, treasurer; Pam Bruno, secretary; Mike Rogers, sergeant at arms; and board members Marc Meyer, Walt Luniewski, Claire Cozzi, Susan Eason and Sandy Keck.

Poetry Revisited is a newly organized monthly group for those who write, read and listen to poetry. The intention of this group is to afford poets and would-be poets an opportunity to read their work to others, as well as to enable those with a less-than-positive impression of poetry to experience the reading and hearing of poems from a different angle. 

An introductory gathering is planned at Rourk Branch Library in Shallotte from 3-4:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, in the library meeting room.

The Southwest Brunswick Newcomers Club (SWBNC) will meet from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, Feb. 10, in the fellowship hall of the Shallotte Presbyterian Church in Shallotte. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for new members to join and to sign up for scheduled recurring activities and special planned events.

The featured guest speaker will be Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Ola Lewis, whose district includes Brunswick County. She will discuss the North Carolina judiciary system as well as local initiatives she has instituted within the legal system.
