On the heels of a highly successful art workshop with Sterling Edwards, Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash has announced a showing of Edwards’ newest abstract pieces at the gallery. It includes two on paper under glass and several large acrylic paintings on canvas.
The abstracts by Edwards will be available at the gallery through Sept. 30.

Albert Caldwell was 26 years old when he, his wife and their 10-month-old son boarded the Titanic.
The Caldwells were on their way back to the United States after serving as missionaries in Siam (now Thailand). How they came to be aboard the Titanic, how they survived the sinking and how the ordeal affected the rest of their lives is a story told by Julie Hedgepeth Williams in her newest book, “A Rare Titanic Family: The Caldwells’ Story of Survival.”

A local chapter of Project Linus started when a group of women from Calabash and Little River, S.C., joined together for one common cause—to make comfort blankets for children in Horry County, S.C..
Since its beginning in 2006, the Heather Lakes Division of Project Linus has made 1,910 blankets and is striving to reach 2,000 by the end of 2012.

Southport’s Franklin Square Gallery honors its founding artists and those who have contributed to its growth throughout its history in its Lifetime Members Show opening July 16.
During the last three decades, 31 artists have been awarded lifetime member status, with 16 still working and residing in the area. Their vivid scenes of Southport and Oak Island, their still life’s and pottery, represent the finest of local art and will be on exhibit through Aug. 25.
