The event is part of the gallery’s Creative After Hours series designed to encourage non-artists to explore creativity in a fun and informal environment.

Brunswick County Schools will be open on a set schedule to allow students to check out and return books. Participating students can win prizes, including T-shirts, and help their schools win, too.

It’s kids’ summer movie time again.
Now that school is out, Coastal Cinema 10 at 5200 Bridgers Road in Shallotte has launched its seasonal kids’ summer movie series.
Movie showings are at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 2.
Admission for all ages is $1 per person.
The Coastal Carolina Camera Club had a club social and print competition for images best depicting “Entryways” at its June 12 meeting. Awards were given in three divisions: novice, intermediate and advanced.
First place in the novice division went to Gary Joseph for “Church Entryway.” Willis Whyte placed second with “Down but Not Out” and Fred Schwartz’s image “Entryway in Butchart” was third.

On June 9, Fort Fisher State Historic Site will host the first of three second Saturday programs open to the public this summer season. Model Military: Visualizing History in Scale will spotlight the use of models and miniatures in creating history in a scale format. Local artisans and hobbyists with Eastern Carolina Plastic Modelers will display their creations and discuss model research and hobby tips.
Whether a child preferred planes, cars, trucks or animals, the fourth annual Big Toy Day had something special for everyone. Designed to provide a fun-filled educational experience for kids of all ages, the day gave a behind-the-scenes peek into the careers of pilots, truck drivers, firefighters, law enforcement agents, military services, sanitation crews, construction workers, animal trainers and more.
More than 160 children received free airplane rides courtesy of the Brunswick County Airport Commission and the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 939.
