    Hospital seeks new volunteers
    For those interested in giving back to the community, Brunswick Novant Medical Center is now recruiting new volunteers to fill numerous volunteer roles throughout the hospital.
    Applications must be submitted by Friday, Nov. 30, to attend the next volunteer informational meeting from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Brunswick Novant Medical Center.

  • Museum, planetarium honor their volunteers

    The Museum of Coastal Carolina and Ingram Planetarium had their annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on Oct. 30. These facilities could not operate without the active support of their outstanding volunteers, officials said.
    Volunteer coordinator Judy Sobota thanked all of the volunteers for their service and noted it is always difficult to select a few volunteers for special mention when all the volunteers are so deserving and appreciated.

    The Brunswick Soil & Water Conservation District Board will meet at
    7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at the Brunswick Soil & Water Conservation District Office, Building F, in the Government Center in Bolivia.

  • Museum celebrates Spooky Night

    Skeletons, ghosts, witches and goblins descended on the Museum of Coastal Carolina on Oct. 25 for the first-ever Spooky Night at the Museum.
    The pirate ship in the museum’s lobby and the gaily-decorated museum galleries resulted in smiling faces and even a few anxious faces for those who (with parental permission) bravely ventured into the “scary room.”

  • Dosher volunteers present check to hospital

    On Oct. 23, the Dosher Memorial Hospital volunteers presented a donation of $46,162.66 to Dosher Hospital President and CEO Edgar Haywood III at the hospital.
    The donation was made possible through the fundraising efforts of Dosher volunteers at the hospital’s gift shop and the Dosher Hospital volunteer flea market at 129 E. Moore St. in Southport.
    The check represented hospital donations made by Dosher volunteers during the last five months, from May through September.

    Nuclear plant to test sirens Nov. 14
    The annual full-volume test of the public notification sirens within 10 miles of the Brunswick Nuclear Plant will be conducted Wednesday, Nov. 14, beginning at 10 a.m.
    This test is part of Progress Energy Carolinas’ comprehensive emergency planning program performed in cooperation with the state of North Carolina and Brunswick and New Hanover counties.
