  • Make food resolutions for healthier eating this coming New Year

I’ve spent the last few weeks of December indulging in pies, cakes, candy, Christmas cookies and the occasional (?) cocktail.

Once the New Year begins, we all pledge to lose weight, cut down on our salt intake and vow to eat more sensibly. Over the years, Americans have become increasingly overweight and prone to heart disease, so it’s no wonder we annually commit ourselves to eating better.

  • Fresh pearl onions add to the flavor and texture of any dish

Many of us, myself included, have avoided buying pearl onions because of the thought of peeling all those little suckers. But to my surprise, once you have learned how to peel them, you’ll be amazed at how easy it really is. And, it’s worth the effort, because they really are delectable.

Start by putting the onions in a pan of boiling water and allow them to boil for a couple minutes. Then, drain them in a colander.

  • Christmas dinner traditions are celebrated throughout the world

Adults and kids alike look forward to that customary Christmas dinner of roast turkey garnished with chestnuts, vegetables and cranberry sauce. Afterward, we all enjoy those homemade cookies and other delectable sweets.

Food is an integral part of any celebration and, of course, Christmas is no different. Most every country has its own Christmas dinner traditions but the food served differs from country to country.

The classic turkey dinner is also a traditional dish in Canada and England.
