  • It’s time to start planning your Christmas meal

     Everyone loves gathering for Christmas dinner. Many of us will also be sharing Christmas Eve dinner with relatives and friends. So with only a few days until Christmas, if you haven’t already, it’s time to think about that Christmas meal.

    Traditionally, most Christmas dinners consist of turkey, stuffing, ham, cranberry sauce, scalloped potatoes, macaroni and cheese, green beans or other veggies and an array of desserts. Sound familiar? Many of us have this same meal at Thanksgiving, too.

     Cookies are basically the point of Christmas, right? And, since Christmas cookies don’t have calories, you can bake all you want without feeling guilty. Seriously though, what aroma better captures the fragrance of the season?

     According to history, the first Thanksgiving feast was in 1621 at Plymouth Colony. It consisted of turkey, waterfowl, venison, fish, lobster, clams, berries, fruit, pumpkin and squash. But it wasn’t until the Wampanoag Indian guests came and joined the Pilgrims that they decided to extend the affair.

    Today, we celebrate Thanksgiving for one day, or maybe two, if you count Black Friday.

Right then and there I decided it was time to bring my slow cooker out of storage, where it had been since our move almost two months ago.

     While most of us enjoy cooking, whether on the stovetop or grilling outside, we sometimes tend to ignore all the various sauces that can really enhance the flavor and aroma when cooking everything from steak to chicken to pork to fish to vegetables and even certain fruits.
