     Justin and Christina Fulford of Bolivia are the proud parents of a daughter, Alana Grace Fulford, born at 8:07 a.m. Sept. 20 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces and measuring 19 inches in length. She joins a sister, Sofia Marie, 22 months.

  • Noorigian retires from Coast Guard Reserve

     Aram J. Noorigian, son of Leon and Mary Noorigian of Carolina Shores, will officially retire from the federal government as a chief in the Coast Guard Reserve on Oct. 1.

    He joined the Navy when he was 18, then joined the Seabees and finally the Coast Guard.

  • Hewett-Kent

     Ashley Renae Hewett of Bolivia and Delos Robert Kent of Boiling Spring Lakes were married Sept. 23 in Bolivia.

    The bride is the daughter of Rena Milner of Southport and the late Keith Hewett.

    The groom is the son of Bobby and Tammy Britt of Southport.

    The bride was given in marriage by her grandfather, Chris Hewett, and escorted by her step-grandfather, Larry Hester.

    She wore a white dress and carried a bouquet of teal, white and coral roses with baby’s breath.

  • SHS Class of 1957 celebrates at Sunnyside School

     Members of Shallotte High School class of 1957 meet Sept. 11 at Sunnyside School in Shallotte to celebrate the 58th anniversary of their graduation. Also attending with class members were Coach Bill Baker and teachers Flo Baker and Faye Bellamy.

  • Gaudettes celebrate 70th wedding anniversary

     Marie and Robert Gaudette, residents of Arbor Landing in Shallotte, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Sept. 7.

  • Davis recognized by NASA

     The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) hosted its Space Flight Awareness Award Program in New Orleans on Aug. 12 when it honored Tania Butler Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Butler of Shallotte. Davis, a senior procurement analyst in NASA’s office of procurement office, was recognized for her contribution to the agency’s mission as the lead procurement analyst for Johnson Space Center.

  • Brothers complete Eagle Scout projects

     Boy Scout Troop 129’s Life Scouts, William C. Jordan III and Thomas J. Jordan, have completed their Eagle Scout Projects.

    William built a picnic table enabling Camp United Methodist Church staff to sit outside comfortably at lunchtime, while Thomas built a corner bench to enable recipients of the food pantry to sit and wait for their food boxes.

    Both projects were completed at the church with donations provided by Dr. Mark Saunders of Shallotte Vision Care and Frank and Rosemarie Rinaldi.

  • Clemmonses celebrate 50th anniversary

     Waddell and Judy Clemmons celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an Alaskan cruise aboard the MS Noordan, a Holland America Line cruise ship, Aug. 22. They were married in Little River, S.C., on Aug. 22, 1965.

  • World War II Remembered Group hosts SOS breakfast

     Southeastern North Carolina’s World War II Remembered Group will host its annual World War II-style SOS breakfast Sept. 23 at the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center, 2222 S. College Road in Wilmington. The public is invited.

  • Paxton takes command

    Cadet Maj. Madison Paxton of Boiling Spring Lakes takes command from Cadet Capt. Patrick McDoniel of Hampstead at the Cape Fear Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Change of Command event Aug. 17 at the VFW at 2722 Carolina Beach Road. More than 60 members and guests were in attendance for the ceremony.

    Also in attendance were North Carolina Wing Cmdr. Col. David Crawford and Mid-East Region Operations Officer Lt. Col. Jay Langley, both of Raleigh, and Commander of the North Carolina Leadership Academy Lt. Col. Shelley Gonzales of Kernersville.
