• Pearl Harbor survivors, witnesses sought for commemoration ceremony


    The World War II Wilmington Home Front Heritage Coalition is seeking Pearl Harbor survivors and witnesses for southeastern North Carolina’s annual Pearl Harbor commemoration ceremony scheduled for Dec. 7 at Battleship Park.

  • WBHS Class of 1975 celebrates reunion

     The West Brunswick High School graduating class of 1975 spends it 40th class reunion with a meet-and-greet Nov. 6 with more than 80 in attendance. Some classmates even flew in from Texas. A tour of WBHS on Nov. 7 was followed by a banquet that night with 90 classmates (132 attending in total) at The Isles on Ocean Isle Beach. There were many door prizes and a DJ playing ‘70s favorites while dancing in a “Soul Train” line. The class had a worship service the next morning.

  • Sellers’ annual reunion Oct. 24

        The descendants of Elisa Sellers (1867-1935) will have its annual family reunion Saturday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall at Supply Baptist Church on U.S. 17 East in Supply. All family members are invited and encouraged to attend. Each family is asked to bring a basket of food to share and any family updates since the last reunion.

  • Harrington-Stalvey engagement

     Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Alisha Lee Harrington and William Seth Stalvey.

    The bride-elect is the daughter of Debbie and stepdaughter of Steve Walker of Omaha, Neb., and granddaughter of Dennis and Patricia Harrington of Holden Beach. A graduate of University of Nebraska at Kearney, she is a legal coordinator in Omaha.

  • Ambrose engagement

     Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Taylor Helen Ambrose and William Hampton Hall. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald James Ambrose. She is a 2014 graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and is a registered nurse in the oncology department at UNC Hospital. The prospective groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hall. He is a 2014 graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and is a graduate student in the UNC Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy. A July 2016 wedding is planned.

  • Godwin-Hyman wedding


     Terri Winnette Godwin and Brinson Edward Hyman were united in marriage Sept. 19 at Little Prong Missionary Baptist Church in Ash. The Rev. Cary Godwin, father of the bride, officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of the Rev. Cary Godwin of Ash and the late Bettie Marlow Godwin. She was escorted and given in marriage by her father.

    The groom is the son of Jessie Hyman of Kenly and the late Willis Edward Hyman.

  • Formyduval family reunion

     A Formyduval family reunion is planned for Saturday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Old Waccamaw Schoolhouse 5901 Waccamaw School Road NW in Ash. Bring a dish to share and any old photos to display. The reunion is open to all Formyduval descendants and relatives.
