  • Graham completes basic

    Air Force Airman Shaquan D. Graham, son of Shawnta D. Graham and grandson of Iris D. Jacobs of Leland, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas.

    Graham completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

    Pastor Stephen Nobles and the Sunshine Sisters of New Britton Baptist Church in Ash honor the 86th birthday of Jackie Cox, who was born Nov. 13, 1931.

  • Nobles celebrates 80th birthday

    Family, friends and GapWay Baptist Church members celebrated the birthday of Azure Nobles, who turned 80 on Oct. 19.

  • Cheatham-Hankins engagement

    Mr. and Mrs. Allan Cheatham of Shallotte announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth Allyn Cheatham, to Samuel Peyton Hankins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vince Hankins of Burlington. A March 2018 wedding is planned.

    Cheatham, a graduate of Meredith College, is a talent acquisition coordinator with IBM.

    Hankins graduated from North Carolina State University and is employed as a business development representative with Dystar.

  • Thompson birth

    Raymond and Ami Thompson of Supply are the parents of a daughter, Scarlett Rose Thompson, born at 3:09 a.m. Sept. 25 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Wilmington.

    She weighed in at 7 pounds, 9 ounces and measured 20 inches in length.

    Maternal grandparent is Bonnett Bellamy Fortiscue of Supply. Paternal grandparent is Teresea Evans Taylor of Supply.

  • Class of 1962 reunion

    The Shallotte High School “Pirates” Class of 1962 will have its 55-year class reunion Friday, Oct. 6, at 4:30 p.m. at the home of Kenneth Hewett, 27 Varnamtown Road in Varnamtown, and Saturday, Oct. 7, at Jerome’s Steak and Seafood in Shallotte from 2 to 6 p.m.

  • Johnson-Robinson engagement

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Toy Hewett Johnson of Holden Beach and Robert Robinson of Supply.

    The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Larry Walker and Viola Hewett of Holden Beach.

    The prospective groom is the son the late O.Y. and Icelane Robinson of Supply.

    An Oct. 15 wedding is planned at Sabbath Home Baptist Church.

  • Shallotte Class of 1957 hosts reunion

    The Shallotte High School Class of 1957 gathers for its68th class reunion at Jerome’s Steak House in Shallotte on Sept. 22. Nineteen classmates of the original graduating class of 67 and two of their teachers, Faye Hewett Bellamy and Edna Piatt Bellamy, along with several spouses attended the celebration.

    Don Hickman, class president, was the emcee for the occasion. Many school memories were shared and discussed.
