  • Dancer graduates from Air Force basic training

    Airman First Class Ryan J. Dancer, son of Steven and Sharon Nelke Dancer of Leesburg, Ga., graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base on July 9. Dancer was an honor graduate and achieved expert marksman. He will continue his training by attending Explosive Ordnance Disposal School at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. His parents and all his grandparents —  Otto and Marian Nelke of Sunset Beach, Mary Dancer and Henry Greenemeyer of New Jersey, James Dancer and Joy Ritchie of Florida — attended his graduation.

  • Johndro graduates from basic training

    Air Force Airman 1st Class Ashley A. Johndro graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio. She is the granddaughter of Jennie Redmond of Leland.

    Johndro completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

  • Norman awarded Order of the Long Leaf Pine

     Long time public servant Foster Norman received staff, colleagues, family and special guests during a retirement reception June 25 at CoastalCare in Wilmington, where he was presented with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award, among other recognitions. 

  • Mattutats celebrate 65th anniversary

     Hank and Marilyn Mattutat celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary July 8. Residents of Carolina Shores for 27 years, they previously resided in The Bronx and Long Island, N.Y. They have four children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

  • West wins American Woman Pageant
  • Ikalowych commissions into Marine Corps

     Stephen Ikalowych of Oak Island was commissioned into the Marine Corps during a ceremony May 8 at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Families, friends, faculty and staff assembled at the Summerall Chapel on The Citadel campus to honor the newly commissioned officers. The commissioning cadets and students took oaths accepting their appointments as officers in the U.S. armed services.

     

  • Esau-Grissett marriage

     Krystal Esau and James Grissett were married June 6 at Calvary Baptist Church in Shallotte. The Rev. Wayne Turnage officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Esau of Longwood. She is continuing her education at Brunswick Community College.

    The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Grissett of Shallotte. He is employed at McLeod Seacoast in Little River, S.C.

    A reception followed in the church fellowship hall.

    The couple will reside in the Grissettown area.

  • Milligan-Kossen engagement

     Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Blair Bennett Milligan of Washington, D.C., and Pieter Frank Kossen of Jackson, Miss. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Craven Demette Jr. and Wendy Redwine Milligan of Ocean Isle Beach. The prospective groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Pieter Thomas and Cornelia Sills Kossen of Edwards, Miss. A Sept. 5 wedding is planned at Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte.

  • Szafarski graduates from basic

     Army Pvt. Ronald M. Szafarski, son of Patricia A. Szafarski of Shallotte and Ronald C. Szafarski of Amherst, N.Y., has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

     

  • Freeman graduates from basic

     Army Pvt. Terry R. Freeman, son of Wanda Freeman of Lumberton, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.
