Milestones

  • 100th birthday

    Josephine Gutjahr celebrates her 100th birthday among family and friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Roseann and Joe Kronski of Ocean Isle Beach. She has two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren. Born in New Hampshire on March 22, 1912, North Carolina became her home when she moved here with her daughter and son-in-law in 2003.

    Mrs. Laura E. Thompson and Mr. Edward Houston Carter Jr. of Supply are the parents of a daughter, Mary Grace Carter, born at 9:57 p.m. Feb. 10 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounces and measuring 20 and one-half inches in length.
    Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Thompson Jr. of Rockingham.
    Paternal grandparents are Mrs. Violet Carter of Wilmington and the late Edward Houston Carter.
     

  • Johnson-Thompson

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Christa Johnson and Andrew Thompson. The bride-elect is the daughter Mr. and Mrs. James K. Johnson Jr. of Bolivia. The prospective groom is the son of Dr. Sharon Thompson and Randy Thompson of Sunset Beach. An April wedding is planned in Wilmington.
     

  • O’Dwyer-Duff

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Kimberly O’Dwyer and Zachary Duff, both of Wilmington. The bride-elect is the daughter of William and Jacqueline DeGroot of Sunset Beach and the late Richard O’Dwyer. She is a graduate of UNCW. The prospective groom is the son of Edward and Beverly Duff of Fairfax Station, Va. He is also a graduate of UNCW. A Dec. 12 wedding is planned.

  • Tyson-Hatcher

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Racheal Tyson and Joshua Hatcher, both of Goldsboro. The bride-elect is the daughter of Cheryl Hair of Bolivia and Randy Tyson of Surfside Beach. She is working on her master’s degree at East Carolina University. The prospective groom is the son of Keith and Cinna Hatcher of Supply. He is on active duty in the United States Air Force. A March 17 wedding is planned at the Southport Community Center in Southport.

  • Smith-Long Reunion

    The Henry Cannon Smith and Jesse Long reunion will be from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Senior Building behind Waccamaw School in Ash. Lunch will be served at noon. Bring your family history, old photographs and a covered dish.
    A Henry Cannon Smith picture will be on display.
    A collection will be taken for a grave marker.

She is a pharmacist in High Point. The prospective groom is the son of Rudy and Naara Lopez of Greensboro. He will graduate in May from Elon School of Law. A March 17 wedding is planned at Seaside Methodist Church.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Mike and Patti Stocking of Cornelius, Ore. The prospective groom is the son of Craig and Winona MacKinnon of Carolina Shores. A March 17 wedding is planned in Bend, Ore.

    Mandy and Courtney Nealeans of Clemmons are the proud parents of a son, Carson Vann Nealeans, born at 11:04 p.m. Feb. 14, Thanksgiving Day, at Forsyth Hospital in Winston-Salem.
    Maternal grandparents are Robert and Wendy Bonas of Phoenix, Md.
    Paternal grandparents are Alan and Karen Nealeans of Lewisville, and Patty and Terry Garrison of Holden Beach. Great-grandfather is Vann Nealeans of High Point. Great-great-grandmother is Pearl Brockwell of Chapel Hill.
