  • Hibbard graduates from basic

     Air Force Airman 1st Class Robert M. Hibbard, son of Robert and Tracy Hibbard of Ash, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio.

    Hibbard completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

  • Speed, Hewett to marry

     Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Tyeisha Shanay Speed of Oxford and Jerek Hewett of Shallotte. The bride-elect is the daughter of Tracy Haskins and Ivan Speed of Oxford. She is a graduate of East Carolina University. The prospective groom is the son of Janell Hewett-Lawrence and Michael Lawrence of Shallotte and grandson of Alma Hewett and Ellis Hewett of Brunswick County. He is a graduate of East Carolina University. An Oct. 4 wedding is planned at United House of Prayer For All People in Raleigh.

  • Dowdys announce birth

    Matthew and Kristin Dowdy of Ocean Isle Beach are the parents of a daughter, Olivia Jane Dowdy, born at 8:41 p.m. Aug. 31 at New Hanover Memorial Hospital weighing 7 pounds, 14 ounces and measuring 20 inches in length.

    Maternal grandparents are Mitchell and Mary B. Williamson of Whiteville.

    Paternal grandparents are Rick and Christine Dowdy of Jamestown.

    Great-grandparents are Jane E. Bullard and Margaret Smith.

  • Smith announces birth

    Audrey Nicole Smith of Supply is the proud parent of a son, Bladen Kyler Smith, born at 4:11 p.m. Aug. 18 at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center weighing 5 pounds, 14 ounces and measuring 18½ inches long.
    Paternal grandparents are Lindberg and Carrie Lane Smith of Supply.
    Great-grandparents are the late Junior and Mina Smith of Shallotte and the late Bill and Rulane Lane of Supply.

  • Bourland-Regan engagement

     Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Ashley Victoria Bourland and Colin Regan of Charleston, S.C. The bride-elect is the daughter of Jimmy and Melody Bellamy of Shallotte and granddaughter of Grace Stone of Ocean Isle Beach and the late Hubert and Ophelia Bellamy of Shallotte. She is a graduate of West Brunswick High School and received a Bachelor of Science in business operations and marketing from UNCW. After a fall wedding, the couple will reside in Charleston, S.C., where she will continue working with the family business.

  • 252nd CA/AAA Group Association annual reunion

     Officers of the 252nd Coast Artillery/Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group Association in Wilmington have announced plans for the 35th annual reunion scheduled for Friday, Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6. All former members of HQ and HQ Battery, 252d CA/AAA or any subordinate units are encouraged to attend.

    A business meeting and stag “shrimperoo” will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Covil Farms Clubhouse, Covil Farm Road (off Military Cutoff) in Wilmington. Cost is $12 per person in advance or $15 at the door.
