Milestones

  • Bryant graduates from basic training

     Air Force Airman Charles Bryant, son of Contina and Charles Bryant Sr. of Bolivia, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio. He completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

    Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

  • Godleys announce birth

     Joey and Michele Godley of Ocean Isle Beach are the proud parents of a daughter, Morgan Taylor Godley, born at 2:08 a.m. Jan 11 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center weighing seven pounds, seven ounces and measuring 18-1/2 inches in length.

    She joins brothers Kaleb Godley, 9, and Bryson Hollis, 6.

    Maternal grandparents are Mary Miles of Florence, S.C. and Carrol Grantham of Bishopville, S.C.

    Paternal grandparents are Ron and Carolyn Bailey of Tarboro.

  • DeHarts celebrate 65th anniversary

     Mr. and Mrs. Elvin DeHart celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary March 25. Mutual friends introduced them while they were living in Winston-Salem and Mr. DeHart was on leave from serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. They were married in High Point and later moved to in New Jersey. Mr. DeHart retired from Western Electric. The DeHarts, who have lived in Supply for nearly 30 years, have two children, four grandchildren and a great-grandchild with another on the way.

  • Morris and Hilda Hall celebrate 58th anniversary

    Morris and Hilda Hall of Shallotte celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary by playing a round of golf at Brierwood Golf Course with friends Sara and Jerry Lula from Michigan. Morris, a former Shallotte alderman, was a member of the Shallotte Fire Department for 11 years and taught school in Fairfax for 30 years. He also enjoys playing Santa at Christmastime at Waccamaw Elementary and for Sharon United Methodist Church’s homeless program.

    Jesse and Jessica Campbell of Supply are the proud parents of a daughter, Abigail Hope Campbell, born at 5:12 p.m. Jan. 8 at Brunswick Novant Medical Center. She weighed 6 pounds, 4 ounces and measured 19 inches in length.

    Maternal grandparents are Linda and Maurice Galloway (stepfather) of Supply and the late Danny Long of Shallotte.

    Paternal grandparents are Susan and Paul Evans (stepfather) of Supply and Jimmie Campbell of West Melbourne, Fla.

  • Birth announcement

    T.J. and Tara Turner of Winnabow are the proud parents of a son, Thomas Earl Turner III, born at 2:56 p.m. Jan. 23 at Betty H. Cameron Women and Children’s Hospital on the campus of New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He weighed 3 pounds and measured 15-1/4 inches in length.

    He joins a sister, Shaianna, 5.

    Maternal grandparents are Jackie and Brenda Cook of Winnabow and Linda Thompson of Supply.

    Paternal grandparents are Tommy and Cindy Turner of Winnabow.

  • Harllee earns Eagle Scout

    Austin Watson Harllee of Boy Scout Troop 705 and son of Bryant and Elizabeth Harllee of Southport received the rank of Eagle Scout at his Court of Honor on Feb. 2. Harllee is the youngest in his family and the youngest in his troop to receive the highest honor in Scouting. He shares this rank with his brothers Bryson and Cameron.

    He landscaped, made signage and installed underpinning to the existing handicap ramp at Cape Fear Alliance Church. Many friends, church members, youth group and scouts turned out to help make the project a success.

  • Hipp-Cheek

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Samantha Leigh Hipp and Clifton Lawrence Cheek, both of Sunset Beach. The bride-elect is the daughter of Amanda and Benny Hipp Jr. of Ocean Isle Beach. A graduate of UNC-Charlotte, she works as a risk manager for Bank of America. The prospective groom is the son of Larry and Cherri Cheek of Ocean Isle Beach. He attended UNC-Chapel Hill and now works as broker-in-charge at Resort Brokerage of Ocean Isle Beach. A fall wedding is planned in the Caribbean.

  • Cottrell birth

    Sabrina Varnam and Davis Cottrell of Morehead City are the proud parents of a son, Chandler Davis Cottrell, born at 6:24 a.m. Nov. 26, 2013, at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City, weighing 6 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 19-1/2 inches in length.
    Maternal grandparents are Ronald and Jenice Varnam of Varnamtown.
    Paternal grandparents are Kenneth and Sue Hicks of Raleigh and Ken and Sousin Cottrell of Rural Retreat, Va.
    Great-grandparents are Pearl Stump, Bea Varnam, Tabatha Barbour and Kenneth Cottrell Sr.
