  • Madison birth

    Tim and Veronica Madison of Shallotte are the parents of a son, Ethan Glen Madison, born at 12:02 p.m. Nov. 29 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and weighing 9 pounds, 8 ounces.

    He joins a sister, Veronica Brooke Madison, 5.

    Maternal grandparent is Ann Maresca.

    Paternal grandparents are John T. and Evelyn Madison of Shallotte.

  • Ruffner-Thompkins engagement

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Lee Ann Ruffner and Chris Thompkins, both of Supply. The bride-elect is the daughter of Leslie and Laura Ruffner of Greensburgh, Pa. The prospective groom is the son of Tommy and Patricia Thompkins of Hope Mills. A June 18 wedding is planned at Sunset Beach.

  • Brown-Johnson engagement

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Tiffany Nicole Brown of Supply and Austin Gene Johnson of Shallotte. The bride-elect is the daughter of James and Janet Brown of Supply. The prospective groom is the son of Billy and Deanna Johnson of Shallotte. An April 30 wedding is planned at Sharon United Methodist Church.

  • Smith-Helms wedding

    Alicia R. Smith of Supply and Joseph Helms of Shallotte were married Nov. 20 at Holden Beach.

    The Rev. Earl Hewett officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Elray Smith of Shallotte and Vicky Ward of Whiteville.

    The groom is the son of Everette Helms of Boiling Springs and Billie and Billy Hewett of Supply.

    The bride was given in marriage by Chelsey Tharp, daughter of the bride.

    Chelsey Tharp, daughter of the bride, also served as maid of honor.

    Best man was Brandon Helms, brother of the groom.

  • Morrison-Smith wedding

    Alexandra Linn Morrison and Matthew Ernest Smith, both of Raleigh, were married Oct. 23 at Seaside United Methodist Church in Sunset Beach.

    The Rev. David Rowan, the bride’s uncle, officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Linda Morrison of Ocean Isle Beach and the late Alan Lee Morrison.

    The groom is the son of Kenneth and Lori Smith of Fremont.

    The bride was given in marriage by her mother. She wore a J. Crew chiffon and organza dune gown.

  • Thomas birth

    Mark and Erica Thomas of Shallotte are the parents of a daughter, Lily Grayce Thomas, born at 8:40 a.m. Nov. 3 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center weighing 7 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 19-inches long.

    She joins brothers Mark, 12, and Kai, 4.

  • Welch-Salmons wedding

    Samantha Welch and Joshua Salmons, both of Shallotte, were married Oct. 8 at Harvest Fellowship Church in Shallotte.

    The Rev. Tom Johnson officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Sandy Welch of Calabash.

    The groom is the son of Franklin and Teresa Salmons of Shallotte.

    The bride was given in marriage by her mother.

    Pam Waterbury of Calabash, aunt of the bride, served as matron of honor.

    Zach Varnam of Shallotte, cousin of the groom, served as best man.

  • Ray anniversary

    Universal Health Care/Brunswick co-hosts Edwin and Sara Ray’s 70th wedding anniversary on Nov. 11. Mrs. Sara’s home away from home, they worked side-by-side with her daughter Carol Hepler and managed to turn its gathering room into a room filled with special memories,  music, family and friends.

  • Varnam-Gibson engagement

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming engagement of Amanda Varnam of Calabash and Aaron Gibson of Calabash. The bride-elect is the daughter of Olaf Dale Varnam and Linda McCumbee Parker of Supply. The prospective groom is the son of the late Timothy Gibson and Jeff and Christine Strasser of Shallotte. A May 7, 2011, wedding is planned at Windy Point.

  • Little-Reaves wedding

    Angela Little and Bert Reaves, both of Shallotte, were married Oct. 17 at a private ceremony.

    Magistrate Martha Bryant officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Daniel Norton of Whiteville and the late Brenda Norton.

    The groom is the son of George and Hilda Reaves of Wilmington.

    The bride is employed as a lab manager at the Brunswick County Health Department. The groom is a sergeant with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department.

    Following a honeymoon cruise to the Bahamas, the couple will reside in Shallotte.
