  • Bowe-Karkut wedding

    Amanda Bowe and Michael Karkut, both of West Ashley, S.C., were married Nov. 7, 2010, at Eye Level Art in Charleston, S.C. Rae Woods officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Thomas Bowe of Sandwich Ill., and Marilyn Bowe of Pageland, S.C. She was given in marriage by her mother and father.

    The groom is the son of John and Barbara Karkut of Ocean Isle Beach.

    Matron of honor was Danielle Bowe of Pageland, S.C.

  • Ward birth

    Jason and Marie Ward of Sunset Beach are the parents of a son, Averey Elijah Ward, born at 5:52 p.m. Dec. 21 at Brunswick Community Hospital, weighing 7 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 19 inches long.

    He joins his sister, Veronica Brooke Madison, 5.

    Maternal grandparents are Mike and Jennifer Corleto and Stan and Cindy Holden of Shallotte.

    Paternal grandparents are Cindy and Thomas Dewayne Ward.

    Great-grandparents Flo and Neil Ward, Loretta and Wayne Wells, Wayne Holden and Joe and Faith Trunk of New York.

  • Hewett birth

    Danyelle Landrie and David Hewett of Supply are the parents of a son, Bentley David Hewett, born at 2:28 p.m. Jan. 3 at Brunswick Community Hospital weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces and 18-1/2 inches long.

    He joins brothers Kristopher David, 18 months, and Noah, 10.

    Maternal grandparents are Larry and Robin Landrie of Shallotte.

    Paternal grandparents are Buddy and Theresa Rhodes and Mitchell Hewett of Supply.

    Great-grandparents are Mema and Poppy Hobbs and Grandpa and Grandma Potter.

  • Noble completes basic training

    Navy Seaman William S. Noble, son of Lisa M. and William R. Noble of Calabash, has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Noble completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

  • Stanley enlists in Navy

    Christopher A. Stanley, son of Carla R. and Christopher D. Stanley of Ocean Isle Beach, has enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District in Raleigh.

    The program allows recruits to enter the Navy and take up to one year to complete prior commitments such as high school. Using recruiters as mentors, this program helps recruits ease into the transition from civilian to military life.

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Kara Marsh and Brendan Proffitt, both of San Diego, Ca. The bride-elect is the daughter of Dr. Charles and Bonnie Rogers of Tempe, Az., and Mr. and Mrs. John Marsh of Mesa, Az. The prospective groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Proffitt of Bolivia. An April 7, 2012, wedding is planned in San Diego, Calif.

  • Purvis-Kirchenbaum engagement

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Michelle Alaine Purvis and Brad Jason Kirchenbaum, both of Charlotte. The bride-elect is the daughter of Michael and Merle Purvis of Shallotte. The prospective groom is the son of David Kirchenbaum of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Shelley Schachter of Delray Beach, Fla. A May 14 wedding is planned in Ocean Isle Beach.

    Tim and Veronica Madison of Shallotte are the parents of a son, Ethan Glen Madison, born at 12:02 p.m. Nov. 29 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and weighing 9 pounds, 8 ounces.

    He joins a sister, Veronica Brooke Madison, 5.

    Maternal grandparent is Ann Maresca.

    Paternal grandparents are John T. and Evelyn Madison of Shallotte.
