  • Ray anniversary

    Universal Health Care/Brunswick co-hosts Edwin and Sara Ray’s 70th wedding anniversary on Nov. 11. Mrs. Sara’s home away from home, they worked side-by-side with her daughter Carol Hepler and managed to turn its gathering room into a room filled with special memories,  music, family and friends.

  • Varnam-Gibson engagement

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming engagement of Amanda Varnam of Calabash and Aaron Gibson of Calabash. The bride-elect is the daughter of Olaf Dale Varnam and Linda McCumbee Parker of Supply. The prospective groom is the son of the late Timothy Gibson and Jeff and Christine Strasser of Shallotte. A May 7, 2011, wedding is planned at Windy Point.

  • Little-Reaves wedding

    Angela Little and Bert Reaves, both of Shallotte, were married Oct. 17 at a private ceremony.

    Magistrate Martha Bryant officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Daniel Norton of Whiteville and the late Brenda Norton.

    The groom is the son of George and Hilda Reaves of Wilmington.

    The bride is employed as a lab manager at the Brunswick County Health Department. The groom is a sergeant with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department.

    Following a honeymoon cruise to the Bahamas, the couple will reside in Shallotte.

  • Tripp-Long wedding

    Kelly Tripp and Brian Long, both of Ash, were married July 25 at Friendship Baptist Church in Ash. The Rev. Anthony Clemmons and the Rev. Bob Rea officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Bill and Carrie Ann Tripp of Ash. The groom is the son of Terry and Delois Milliken of Ash and Jimmy Long of Shallotte.

  • Stanaland-Gore wedding

    Tracy Stanaland and Jim Gore, both of Shallotte, were married Oct. 5 in Memphis, Tenn., at Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley.

    A reception took place on Oct. 25 at the home of Alan and Gail Russ in Longwood with family and friends.

    Following a honeymoon in Tennessee, the couple will reside in Shallotte.

  • Price-Ward wedding

    Andrea Brooks Price of Ocean Isle Beach and David Brooks Ward of Shallotte were married Sept. 18 at the Sunset Inn in Sunset Beach.

    Dr. Merlin L. Boone officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben H. Price of Monroe.

    The groom is the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Benjamin B. Ward.

    A reception followed the ceremony at The Brentwood Restaurant in Little River, S.C.

    The bride is employed at the Sunset Inn in Sunset Beach. The groom is employed at the Walmart pharmacy in Shallotte.

  • Smith-Garrett wedding

    Pauline Harris Smith and David D. Garrett, both of Shallotte, were married Oct. 2 in a private ceremony in Sunset Beach.

    Elder Charles Bryant Sr. officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Paul Harris Sr. of New Bern. The groom is the son of Brenda Garrett of Manning, S.C.

    The bride was given in marriage by her father.

    Contina Bryant of Navassa, a friend of the bride, served as matron of honor.

  • Utter gets Air Force promotion

    Franklin M. Utter, son of Jimmy and Dana Smith of Calabash, has been promoted to the rank of senior airmen in the U.S. Air Force. A communications and navigations specialist assigned to the 437th Airlift Wing at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., he has served in the military for two years.

    Utter is a 2006 graduate of West Brunswick High School in Shallotte.

  • Benton-Leder engagement

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Allison Rae Benton of Shallotte and Daniel Lawrence Leder of Little River, S.C. The bride-elect is the daughter of Gerald W. Benton of Ash and the late Ellen K. Benton. The prospective groom is the son of Mary Ann Allgood and Paul M. Leder of Whiteville. A March 13, 2011, wedding is planned at West Martello Tower in Key West, Fla.

  • Simmons-Raleigh engagment

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Belinda Faye Simmons of Supply and the Rev. Stephen Allen ‘Sweets’ Raleigh of Bolivia. The bride-elect is the daughter of Robert and Linda Simmons of Supply. The prospective groom is the son of Jack Raleigh of Winnabow and the late Joyce Ann Maggard. An April 16, 2011, wedding is planned at Faith Community Chapel in Sunset Harbor.
