  • Tomlinson birth

    Maggie and John Tomlinson of Charlotte are the parents of a boy, Reynolds Mason Tomlinson, born at 1:22 p.m. July 7 at Charlotte Presbyterian.

    He joins a sister, Ava Jane, 3.

    Maternal grandparents are Patty and Terry Garrison of Holden Beach and Alan and Karen Nealeans of Lewisville.

    Paternal grandparents are Don Tomlinson of Asheville and the late Jane Tomlinson.

    Great-grandparents are Carolyn and Bill Tomlinson of Georgia.

    Great-great-grandparent is Pearl Brockwell of Chapel Hill.

  • Korps celebrate 70 years

    Matthew and Theresa Korp of Ocean Isle Beach celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary at a party hosted by their children on July 16 at the MAC Center at Sea Trail Plantation in Sunset Beach. The couple was married in Belvidere, N.J., on Sept. 7, 1940. Since their marriage, they have lived in New Jersey, Florida and North Carolina. They have five children, 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

     Amanda Jenkins and Travis Hayes, both of Supply, were married July 25 at Southport.

    The ceremony was officiated by Scott Riley.

    Angie Brakefield and Anita Roseboro were maid/matron of honor.

    Bridesmaids were Meghan McLeod and Brandy Parker.

    Flower girl was Jennifer Brakefield.

    Ringbearer was Noah Hayes.

    Chris Parrish and Gerald Pittman were best men.

    Groomsmen were Trevor McDonald and Gene Evans.

  • Hotop-Tate wedding

    Sarah Kathryn Hotop and Travis Lowell Tate, both of Stafford, Va., were married July 31 at St. Francis of Asissi Church in Triangle, Va.

    The Rev. John Heffernan officiated.

    The bride is the daughter of William and Diana Hotop of Ocean Isle Beach. The groom is the son of Tim and the late Joanne Tate.

    The bride was given in marriage by her parents.

    Debby Hyduke and Martha Hess, sisters of the bride, served as maid/matron of honor.

    Bridesmaid was Jamie Ritenour, friend of the bride.

    Cheyenne Smith served as flower girl.

    Webb and Christen Cox of Shallotte are the parents of a daughter, Emily Price Cox, born at 4:30 a.m. June 2 at Conway Medical Center.

    She weighed 7 pounds, .08 ounces and measured 20 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Gail and Troy Price. Paternal grandparents are Joe and Ginny Cox.

    Great-grandparents are Paul and Geneva Hardee.

  • Carlisles celebrate 50 years

    Leroy and Frances Patricia Beverly Carlisle of Ash have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married June 4, 1960. The couple commemorated the occasion May 23 at the South Brunswick Island Shrine Club in Shallotte. Hosting the party were the couple’s children and grandchildren, son Lee Carlisle and wife Dee of Ash, daughter Theresa Carlisle-Smith and husband Steve of Little River, S.C., grandson Joshua Smith and granddaughter Karmen Caroline Smith. Numerous friends and relatives were also in attendance.

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Joni Michelle Spencer of Ocean Isle Beach and Lance Harding III of Ocean Isle Beach. The bride-elect is a native of Amite County, Miss., and is the daughter of Jesse Lee and Robin Withrow of Wheeling, W.Va., and the late Tammy Jean Stanley. The groom is originally from Lumberton and is the son of Lance Jr. and Jackie Harding of Sunset Beach. A Jan. 22, 2011, wedding is planned in Lumberton.

  • Meissner completes Navy training

    Navy Seaman Apprentice Nicole M. Meissner, daughter of Laura A. and Jay E. Meissner of Leland, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training and was meritoriously promoted to her current rank at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

    During the eight-week program, Meissner completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. 

  • Hughes completes basic training

    Army Pfc. Kristen A. Hughes, daughter of Lane Thompson of Shallotte, and Kevin Hughes of Ocean Isle Beach, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

    During nine weeks of training, Hughes studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.
