    The bride is the daughter of Joseph and Janet Fritz of Sunset Beach, formerly of Troy, N.Y.

    The groom is the son of Patsy and Tom Burns of Mechanicville, N.Y.

    The bride was given in marriage and escorted by her parents.

  • Swaringen-Morton

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Jamie Lynne Swaringen of Richfield and Roger Derek Morton of Albemarle. The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Judith Lynn Swaringen and the granddaughter of Don and Sandy Swaringen of Richfield. The prospective groom is the son of Todd and Teresa Morton of Albemarle and the grandson of Gene and Barbara Norris of Dunn and Roger and Pat Morton of Supply. He is a graduate of West Brunswick High School. A March 28, 2009, wedding is planned at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church in Richfield.

    Jennifer Nicole Quaintance and Gordon William Nash Jr. were married Aug. 23 at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

    The Rev. Thomas Clymer officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Bruce Quaintance of Ocean Isle Beach and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Robinson of Carolina Shores.

    The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Nash Sr. of Wilmington, Pat Sandifer of Holden Beach and the late David Sandifer.

    The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father.

    Church plans Nov. 16 service

    The Rev. Earsken Howard Moody and the Pleasant Hill Church of Shallotte will be in services at Greater Tabernacle Church of Longwood on Nov. 16.

    Services will begin at 4 p.m.

  • How to protect your plants this winter

    In this area of North Carolina, protecting your plants from cold is easy enough to do, since our winters are very mild; however, certain plants need protection from the cold to survive the winter months. Protecting your plants in winter does not mean you have to keep them warm; it simply means providing protection from damaging winds, snow, ice, alternate freezing and thawing of the soil and heat from the sun on very cold days.
