  • Hewett family reunion

     The 24th annual Joseph Hewett Sr. and Hanna Leonard Hewett family reunion will be Saturday, June 21, at Trinity Baptist Church, 883 Holden Beach Road SW. Presentations and updates will start at 9 a.m.

    Brunswick County Commissioner Marty Cooke will discuss the Brunswick County Comprehensive Historical Survey. David Holden, president of the Brunswick County Historical Society, will discuss “Historical and Environmental Factors Affecting our Ancestors.”

  • Navy commissions Williams

     Navy Ensign Kenyon L. Williams, son of George L. and Alicia B. Williams of Leland, graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and was commissioned to his current rank.

  • Wheeler-Evans to wed

     Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Julie Wheeler of Shallotte and Ian Evans of Supply.

    The bride-elect is the daughter of Don and Laura Wheeler of Shallotte. She is a student at East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy. The prospective groom is the son of Steve and Ida Evans of Supply. He is employed by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

    A Dec. 5, 2014, wedding is planned in Asheville.

  • Couple celebrates 69th wedding anniversary

     On June 2, Julian and Geraldine “Jerry” Musselwhite Odom of Sunset Harbor celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. In 1945, Julian was serving in the U.S. Navy at Wilmington Naval Base after being assigned to Fort Caswell Naval Base Submarine Patrol and Geraldine had just finished high school. Twenty-four days after their wedding, his ship and crew were sent to Hawaii. To this day, she still teases him about going on a honeymoon to Hawaii without her.

  • Blanchard birth

     Gary and Erika Blanchard of Clarendon are the proud parents of a son, Cameron Gary Blanchard, born at 8:03 p.m. April 17 at Columbus Regional Healthcare System, weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounces and measuring 21-1/4 inches in length.

    Maternal grandparents are Marco and Barbara Long of Whiteville.

    Paternal grandparents are Gary and Ruth Blanchard of Clarendon.

  • Lewis family reunion

     The George Washington and Lydia Anna Hewett Lewis 33rd annual family reunion will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 1, with a covered dish lunch at the senior center in Carolina Beach, 308 Cape Fear Blvd. For more information, call Dave Lewis at 842-7972 or Ouida Hewett at 842-6017.

  • USS Mount McKinley reunion

     The USS Mount McKinley Association will have its 26th annual reunion in Colorado Springs, Colo., Sept. 17-21 for veterans and associate members from all branches of the military that served on the Amphibious Force Flagship, USS Mount McKinley AGC/LCC-7 and associate members from the Flagship Alliance group that served on one of the other AGCs during their years of commissioned service.

  • Gore family reunion

     The 20th annual family reunion for the friends and descendants of Coval and Dorcas Ann Gore of Gore Lake Road in Nakina will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at Old Zion Wesleyan Methodist Church Family Center, 10144 Swamp Fox Highway in East Tabor City.

    The event will include a covered dish dinner along with a continued history program to educate and entertain, beach house rental and charter boat ticket door prizes, a slide show of past reunions and past generations, as well as more recent reunions and family member pictures.

  • Shoe, Wood marry

     Jodi Ellen Shoe of Sunset Beach and Sandy LaRue Wood of Calabash were married April 26 at Morgan Ridge Vineyard. Pastor Dan Gobble officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of David and Cathy Shoe of Salisbury. She was given in marriage by her father.

    The groom is the son of Betty Wood of Kennett, Mo., and the late Alton Wood.

    Matron of honor was Katie Shoe Flynn of Lewis Center, Ohio, sister of the bride.

    Ed Blanchard of Kennett, Mo., brother-in-law of the groom, served as best man.

  • Frink and Nye wed

     Ashlie Lauren Frink of Ocean Isle Beach and Benjamin Earl Nye III of Evergreen were married April 12 at Leamon Rogers Memorial Chapel in Lake Waccamaw.

    Pastor Willard McPherson officiated.

    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Frink and Ashlie Babson of Ocean Isle Beach. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin E. Nye Jr. of Lake Waccamaw.

    The bride was given in marriage and escorted by her father.
