  • Mauck-Bailey

    Cabell Layne Mauck and Andrew Nelson Bailey were married Dec. 13 at First Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Va.

    The Rev. Mary Kay Collins officiated the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Newbill Mauck III of Richmond.

    She was given in marriage and escorted by her parents.

    The groom is the son of Laurie Anne Nelson of Ocean Isle Beach and George William Bailey Jr. of Charlottesville, Va.

    Caroline Neville Grumbine of Boston, the bride’s cousin, served as maid of honor.

  • Maresca-Madison

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Veronica Maresca of Ash and Tim Madison of Shallotte. The bride-elect is the daughter of Ann Maresca of Sunset Beach. The prospective groom is the son of Evelyn Madison of Shallotte and John Madison of Shallotte Point. A Feb. 21, 2009, wedding is planned in Charleston, S.C. After a honeymoon in the Caribbean, the couple will reside in Ash.

  • Bolig celebrates 80th birthday

    Joyce Ann Bolig, formerly of Lionville, Pa., now a 14-year resident of Carolina Shores, recently celebrated her 80th birthday at the Calabash VFW with her many friends and family. The guests were entertained by Peggy Lenard & Her Bag Pipes. Everyone enjoyed the Buffet catered by the Calabash Deli. Bolig is active in her church, sings in the choir and is a member of the Red Hats. She keeps busy working part time at Toby's Old World Gift Shoppe in Little River, S.C.

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage Crystal Nicole Buffkin of Ocean Isle Beach and Graham James Davis of Shallotte. The bride-elect is the daughter of Ricky and Frances Buffkin of Ocean Isle Beach and is a student at UNC-Chapel Hill. The prospective groom is the son of Bobby and Connie Davis of Shallotte and is employed at the State Employees Credit Union in Chapel Hill. A June 20, 2009, wedding is planned at First Baptist Church of Shallotte.

    Kay Moore Mills and Steven Douglas Webb of Supply were married Nov. 22 at their residence. The Rev. Eddie Hill officiated. The bride is the daughter of Jimmy and Frances Moore of Marshville. She was given in marriage and escorted by her son, Kayne Severson. The groom is the son of Gwen Webb of Supply and Owen Webb of Kentucky. Friends gave the couple a reception following the ceremony. The groom is the owner of Webb Erectors. The couple lives in Supply.

  • Parks-Powell

    Sydney Ellen Parks of Shallotte and David Michael Powell of Carolina Shores were married Oct. 25 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on U.S. 17 South, with Robert H. White officiating.

    The bride is the daughter of Tom and Liesl Parks of Shallotte.

    The groom is the son of Jay and Louisa Powell of Wilmington, Del.

    The bride was given in marriage and escorted by her father.

    Adrienne Yoho Fay of Ocean Isle Beach served as matron of honor.

  • Varnums celebrate 50 years

    Harold and Katie Varnum of Holden Beach celebrated 50 years of marriage Dec. 5. Harold is retired from Brunswick Community College, and Katie is retired from Union Elementary School. They have two children, Tina Carlyle and Harold Varnum Jr., seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

  • Bakers celebrate 60 years

    Martin and Wilma Baker of Palm Coast, Fla., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary by taking their family, nieces and nephews on a five-day cruise beginning Nov. 24. The Bakers married in 1948, when they were both teachers at Waccamaw High School. Wilma Baker is the former Wilma Phelps of Ash. Martin Baker is a native of Marietta, S.C. In 1951, they moved to Marietta, where they managed Baker Pharmacy and were active in mobile home park development. In 1989, they retired to Palm Coast.

  • Granade birth

    Grant Granade and Ellen Wemyss Granade of Calabash are the parents of a son, Eli James Granade, born at 11:01 a.m. Oct. 23 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

    He joins a brother, Garrett, 2.

    Maternal grandparents are Phil and Nancy Wemyss of Ocean Isle Beach.

    Paternal grandparents are Hugh and Elaine Granade and Bill and Gayle Lauer, all of Knoxville, Tenn.

    Great-grandparents are Virginia Bellamy of Ocean Isle Beach and William Richardson of Orangeburg, S.C.

The bride is the daughter of Jerry and Sybil Hamilton of Supply. The groom is the son of Richard and Mary Keogh of Tipperary, Ireland. A Dec. 20 wedding is planned at Ocean View Baptist Church in Ocean Isle Beach.
