There is one marvelous reality Brunswick County can boast about and it is the abundance of prayer groups. Prayer is paramount, taking precedence over all other actions and activities. It is edifying and uplifting. And, I have experienced its power in a deeply personal manner.

BOLIVIA–Mount Olive Baptist Church in Bolivia is kicking off a series to honor retired pastors in the local area at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 22, with a service honoring the Rev. Weston Varnum.

Varnum accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 31. Desiring to become a preacher, he began prayer meetings and was ordained as a minister of the Gospel at Sabbath Home Baptist Church.

He studied at Piedmont Bible College and then graduated at Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in 1954.
