  • Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase

The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. reminds us that the whole staircase of faith is elusive but essential to our living faithfully. I have experienced that reality. I am continuing to experience it as I enter and re-enter the emergency department of Brunswick Community Hospital. Each time Hubby Dear gently transports me to the place where faith tells us healing happens, I delve more deeply into the mystery of redemptive suffering.

  • Riding the roller coaster of life is exhilarating, exhausting and exasperating

I was going along swimmingly, a coastal kind of adverb, when the first rumblings of “dis-ease” caught my attention.

  • Risk everything for a dream that no one sees but you

A line from the movie “Million Dollar Baby” made such an impression on me I wrote it down for further contemplation and possible use. It was then put away safely and forgotten. Forgotten, that is, until I stumbled upon it a few weeks ago.

  • Are we placing roadblocks to our happiness or intensifying it?

In his inimitable style, Hubby Dear announced, “We’re going to watch public television tonight. You like music. You’re going to love this program.”

My typical reaction, rolling my eyes in dismay and feeling pressured to like something I had not chosen for myself, changed to delight when the interview with Gustavo Dudamel began. It intensified with the following two hours highlighting his conducting the LA Philharmonic Orchestra. To say that it was a celebration is a major understatement.

  • Women’s Day by the Sea set for Feb. 26 at Seaside UMC

A day of fellowship and spiritual renewal is just a few weeks away.

For the third year in a row, Seaside United Methodist Church is hosting Women’s Day by the Sea. The event is traditionally on the last Saturday of February.

The idea to host a women’s event arose after several church members attended woman’s day events in Myrtle Beach.
