  • Do we want to spend our lives ‘Up in the Air?’

Oscar night is long over. The subsequent days and nights agonizing over who should have won and didn’t, which outfits were outrageous and which were breathtaking, the back-stabbing and Monday morning quarterbacking have all been relegated to a distant past. All questions and comments will likely be resurrected next year.
Now is the time for me to view the work of the contenders and to offer my own review and/or appraisal.

  • Spirituality is not a one-size-fits-all reality

Two weeks ago, I was graced with an abundance of spiritual opportunities. I eagerly accepted the gift, despite the fact both invitations demanded an early departure from my somewhat leisurely Friday and Saturday schedules.

At the time, I doubt I considered the offerings to be a call from God. I was simply responding to the graciousness of others. Upon reflection, the response was clearly not the whole story.

  • Life and death are adventures of the heart

My friend has died. I wrote about her not so long ago. I mentioned she was a woman who decided, on a daily basis, to live until she died.

She was a woman who constantly and consistently chose life. Now, she has life in the full and forever.

The news did not come as a shock since she had been battling cancer for the past five years. There were no tears to mark a tragic event or wringing of hands in anguish or denial, but it was still a moment of quiet sadness.

  • When hearing fails, it becomes a family issue

Our trek to the audiologist became an interesting venture. It revealed the tip of a huge iceberg called: “Can you hear me now?” Actually, “Are you listening, pretending or truly unable to understand my words?”

Obviously, there had been an ongoing discussion as I tried to ferret out the truth behind the questions and their accompanying responses, or lack thereof.
