Charter school can’t sue ex-superintendent, court rules

A North Carolina court of appeals ruled Tuesday that Roger Bacon Academy and its founder, Baker Mitchell Jr., cannot sue former Brunswick County School superintendent Edward Pruden for criticizing them.

Mitchell filed a defamation lawsuit Jan. 6, 2015, against Pruden in New Hanover County Superior Court, seeking $100,000 in damages. RBA has four charter schools in the region, including two in Brunswick County.
