A map provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration National Hurricane Center identified the locations of Hurricane Jose, Hurricane Marie and Tropical Depression Lee as of Tuesday, Sept. 19.
Hurricane Jose lingers as Hurricane Maria threatens coast

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration National Hurricane Center in Miami announced Hurricane Maria became a Category 5 storm as of 8 p.m. Monday.

By Tuesday afternoon, the hurricane was 110 miles southeast of St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, moving northwest at 10 mph. Forecasts show it was likely to continue in that direction and reach Puerto Rico on Wednesday.

The hurricane was reported to have sustained winds of 160 mph; 110 mph is considered a major hurricane.
