  • Sandy Wooten

    Sandy Joe Wooten, 52, of Shallotte, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, at his home.
    He was born on June 16, 1959, a son of the late William David Wooten and Katie Diane Hauser Wooten.
    Surviving are two brothers, Terry Wayne Wooten and Rodney Dale Wooten; a sister Tanya Wooten; and two nephews, all of Shallotte.
    A memorial service was at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Liberty Tabernacle with the Rev. Deborah Blythe officiating.

  • Juanita Ward

    Juanita Elizabeth Ward, 43, of Sunset Beach, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, in her home. Born in Wilmington, she was a daughter of the Rev. Larry Dillion Ward and Mary Lou Simmons Ward.
    In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sons, Alex Thompson and Dillon Thompson, both of Sunset Beach; two brothers, Bobby Sullivan of Calabash, and Danny Sullivan of Sunset Beach; two sisters, Marilyn Inman of Calabash, and Mary Ellen Ward of Hallsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.

  • Harold Tart

    Harold Wilton Tart, 86, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the N.C. Veterans Home in Fayetteville.
    He was born on Nov. 28, 1925, in Harnett County to the late Walter Hubbard and Cleta Williford Tart.
    He retired from the U.S. Army after 24 years of service to his country. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict.

  • Missy Stonesifer

    Melissa “Missy” Lynn Stonesifer (McCartney), of Calabash, passed away peacefully Sunday morning April 22, 2012, after a long illness at Duke Raleigh Hospital with her parents at her side.
    She was the daughter of James and Barbara (Severe) McCartney of Calabash. She was predeceased by her grandfather, William Bruce Severe.

  • Richard Snyder

    Richard Snyder, 84, of Sunset Beach, died Friday, May 11, 2012, at his residence.
    He was born on Jan. 5, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Harry and Beatrice Quinn Snyder.
    He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
    Surviving is his wife, Loretta R. Snyder of the home; five sons, Scott Snyder of Long Island, N.Y., Michael Snyder of Plano, Texas, Steven Snyder, Jeffrey Snyder and Matthew Snyder, all of Long Island, N.Y.; a daughter, Sister Susan Snyder of Sisters of St. Joseph; and nine grandchildren.

  • Patricia Scholl

    Patricia Preziosi Scholl, 73, died Monday, May 14, 2012, at Sunrise Assisted Living in North Hills.
    A service will take place at a later date.
    A native of East Orange, N.J., Patricia was born May 2, 1939, the daughter of the late Peter Martin Preziosi and Marion Patricia Broderick Preziosi.
    She was a gourmet chocolatier, owning her own business and later working from her home. Patricia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and genuinely a true friend to those who knew her.

  • Winferd Robinson

    Winferd Robinson, 67, of Shallotte, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
    Mr. Robinson was born in Brunswick County on Feb. 15, 1945, a son of the late, Archie Lee Robinson and Ruth Cumbee Robinson. He was preceded in death by five brothers.

  • James Payne Jr.

    James M. Payne Jr., 70, of Shallotte, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at home after a long illness.
    Jim was born on June 20, 1941, in Charlotte, a son of the late James M. Payne Sr. and Desiree Marshall Payne.
    He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1979 after serving 22 years as a MSGT E7. He owned TNT Leather Company in Charlotte, and in 1998 moved the business to Shallotte where he retired in 2002.
    He was a Shriner and a Mason, member of Long Creek Lodge 205 in Huntersville.

  • Mary McLamb

    Mary Elizabeth Watkins McLamb, 81, passed away at Autumn Care in Shallotte on Wednesday morning, May 9, 2012.
    She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bill McLamb; a son, Joseph B. McLamb Jr.; and granddaughter, Christy Renee Norwood.
    She leaves behind five children, Jerry Wayne McLamb of Burlington, Elizabeth Ann Delahunt of Calabash, Jimmy Dale McLamb of Splendora, Texas, Marie McLamb Miles of Shallotte, and James Edward McLamb of Calabash. She has 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

  • Sally Matthews

    Sally Ann Matthews, 75, of Calabash, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center in Whiteville.
    Born in Beaverhead County, Mont., on Oct. 19, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Ura Sapp Stroeder.
    Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Lee Matthews; three sons, Charles Matthews, Daniel Alan Matthews and Stephen Matthews; three daughters, Lee Ann Standifer, Mary Ellen Creegan and Terri Lynn Palilla; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
