  • Michael Clemmons

    Michael D. Clemmons of Southport died Nov. 20, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

    Funeral service was at Southport Baptist Church in Southport. Burial followed at Zion Hill Cemetery in Bolivia.

     

  • Terry Cate

    Terry Joe Cate, 50, of Bolivia, died Nov. 17.

    He was born in Lubbock, Texas, on Sept. 17, 1959, a son of Tommye P. Cate of Lubbock, Texas and the late James Cate.

    He was a retired truck driver and was employed with JNL Painting. He was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church of Lubbock, Texas. He was an avid fisherman.

  • Sallie Hewett

    Sallie Verbee Hewett, 84, of Ash, died Nov. 21, at her home.

    She was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Brunswick County, a daughter of the late John Daniel and Blanchie Carlisle Andrews.

    She retired as owner and operator of Hewett’s Tire & Muffler.

    Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Rifton Hewett; two sons, Danny Hewett and wife Loretta and Mitchell Hewett; a daughter, Donita Taylor and husband Fred, all of Ash; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

  • Lewis Inman

    Lewis R. Inman, 82, of Southport, died Nov. 21, at his home.

    He was born in Mount Airy, on Feb. 6, 1927, a son of the late Jarvie and Lula Shelton Inman. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II and a mason.

    He was a retired industrial engineer. He earned his degree at N.C. State University.

    He was a member of Shoreline Baptist Church of Southport.

  • David Kohl

    David James Kohl, 60, of Shallotte, died Nov. 19, at his home.

    He was born Jan. 16, 1949, in Reading, Pa., a son of the late Norman and Dorothy Moyer Kohl.

    Surviving are his wife, Pamela Williams Kohl of Shallotte; two sons, Jason Kohl (Regina) and Michael Kohl (Dawn); one brother, Norman Kohl; one sister, Colleen Koller and one granddaughter.

    Services will be at a later date.

  • Ava Privette

    Ava Phelps Privette, 79, of Shallotte, died Nov. 21, at Brunswick Cove Nursing Center.

    She was born in Brunswick County on June 18, 1930, a daughter of the late Preston H. and Rebecca Lewis Phelps. She was a homemaker.

    Surviving are her sister, Evelyn Robinson of Shallotte, and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Graveside funeral services were at Sharon United Methodist Church Cemetery.

  • Sarah Snyder

    Sarah Kathleen Snyder, 66, of Bolivia, died Nov. 20, at Dosher Memorial Hospital.

    She was born in Dayton, Ohio, on April 23, a daughter of the late James H. and Phyllis Harlow Law.

    She was the former owner and operator of Greenville Telephone Answering Service of Greenville, Ohio, and for the past eight years she was employed with Lowes Home Improvement Store in Southport.

    She was an officer with Humane Society of Greenville, Ohio, and operated a home pet security business.

  • Joseph Ward

    Joseph Andrew Ward, 2 months, of Bolivia, died Nov. 20.

    He was born in Chapel Hill, on Sept. 9, a son of Brittany Diane Ward and Jose Barron. Other survivors include his maternal grandparents, Chris and Kaye Ward of Bolivia; maternal great grandparents, Edward and Judy Ward of Bolivia and Bonnie Cain of Ocean Isle Beach; paternal grandparents, Caroline DuBoise of Shallotte and Jose Barron of Ash; paternal great-grandmother, Brenda MaQueda of Shallotte; four aunts and two uncles.

  • Vi Woods

    Mary Viola “Vi” Register Woods, 78, of Oak Island, died Nov. 18, following a battle with cancer.

    She was born Sept. 24, 1931, in Brunswick County, a daughter of the late Ralph Waldo Register and Susan Etta Register Caison. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert “Bob” Woods; brother Malcolm H. Register; son, Jonathan Woods.

  • Ophelia Lancaster

    Ophelia Mae Lancaster, 91, of Supply, died Thursday Nov. 19.

    She was born Jan. 9, 1918, in Brunswick County, a daughter of the late Harvey T. and Lovie Fulford Varnam.

    Surviving are her son, Eugene W. Lancaster Jr., and wife Gale; daughter, Julia Holden; brother, Cortland Varnam and wife Bobbie, all of Varnamtown; two sisters, Lucille Butterbough, of Oceola Mills, Pa., and Virginia Norton of Shallotte; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
