  • Henry Bumgarner

    Henry Ray Bumgarner, 75, of Charlotte and formerly of Supply, died March 19 at Presbyterian Hospital.

    A service to celebrate his life was set at Durham Memorial Baptist Church. Interment followed at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.

  • Dante DiMartino

    Dante (Dan) DiMartino of Durham and Sunset Beach, formerly of Shelburne, Vt., died Friday, March 21 in his Durham home after a battle with cancer.

    He was born May 26, 1947, in Framingham, Mass., to the late Ludwig and Phyllis DiMartino. He attended Framingham public schools and graduated from Wentworth Institute in Boston with a degree in architectural engineering.

  • Evelyn Dutton

    Evelyn Odom Dutton, 93, of Southport, died March 20 at Dosher Nursing Center.

    She was born in Marlboro County, S.C., a daughter of the late Colin and Lulu Patterson Odom. She was the wife of the late Rolly Dutton.

    She owned and operated restaurants for many years and later became a licensed practical nurse.

  • Archie Ferguson Sr.

    Archie “Buck” Ferguson Sr., 74, of Shallotte, formerly of Greensboro, died March 14 at his home.

    He is retired from Hatteras Yacht in High Point, where he worked for 29 years.

  • William Floyd Jr.

    William Walter Floyd Jr. of Supply, formerly of James Island, S.C., died March 22.

    Funeral services were set for 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., downtown chapel. Burial will be private.

    He was born Feb. 9, 1942, in Ocean Isle Beach, a son of William Walter Floyd and Katie Williams Floyd. He retired as dredge captain with the Southern Dredging Company.

  • Edward Gillin

    Edward Robert Gillin, 81, of Carolina Shores, died March 22 at his home.

    He was born Nov. 15, 1926, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Robert Francis and Mary Hurley Gillin. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

    He retired as an executive vice president of Foster & Kleiser.

  • Cornell Gore

    Cornell Evans Gore, 73, of Shallotte, died March 24 at her residence.

    She was born Jan. 11, 1935, in Brunswick County, a daughter of the late Willie and Lea Danford Evans. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene A. Gore Sr.; a son in-law, Wayne Gore; two sisters, Iola Clemmons and Merlie Evans; and a brother, Haynes Evans.

  • Frank Howenstein

    Francis Charles “Frank” Howenstein, 83, of Southport, died March 19 at Ocean Trail Nursing Center.

    He was born in Schenectady, N.Y., on May 27, 1924, a son of the late Francis Charles Howenstein and Nora Dowling Howenstein. He was a U.S. Navy veteran

  • Shirley Joyner

    Shirley Bernice Allman Billings Joyner, 74, of Concord, died March 22 at her home.

    Funeral services were set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. Interment was to follow at Carolina Memorial Park.

    She was born Aug. 10, 1933, in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Pressley Allman and Inez Fisher Allman Love. She was a homemaker.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia “Patti” Billings Bonds, and by her husband, Owen White “Whitey” Joyner.

  • Sandra Kelly

    Sandra Ann Kelly, 61, of Calabash, died March 24.

    She was born in Winston-Salem on Feb. 11, 1947, a daughter of the late Woodrow and Janet Holcomb. She was the oldest of three children.

    She was a nurse, mother and grandmother and active in her church.

    She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Kelly and Elizabeth Villanueva; a grandson; two brothers, Rob and Tom Holcomb; and her aunt, Eileen Heichert.
